Our History

picture1The Side Group of Companies

Development of our group of companies began in the Peace Country in the early 1950’s and more specifically in Grande Prairie in 1969 with the launch of Northern Metalic Sales – our wholesale distribution business.  Over the course of our ½ century history our experience in supply chain management, project development and transportation has evolved to reach far beyond our expectations and this region.

Today we boast a group of successful complementary companies based in Grande Prairie that involve oilfield distribution, property and land development, rail reload and transportation, industrial supply and finance. We understand what agility in supply chain management means not only to us but to our vendors & customers.

We manage very broad inventories that originate around the world for dispatching in other parts of the globe.  Between Baron Oilfield Supply and Northern Metalic, alone, we direct the movement of a 1/2 billion dollars of goods annually from our Grande Prairie operations. Our warehouses are modern, our systems are current, and our people are engaged.

barryBaron Oilfield Supply History

Baron Oilfield Supply originated in 1986. Operations began in Grande Prairie, Alberta, as an independent supplier of valve and piping products to the oil industry.  With Service being our foundation, we have expanded from our Head Office in Grande Prairie to 13 branch offices across Alberta and British Columbia.

With the growth of the oil industry we have also grown and diversified. Today we can boast over 500 years of cumulative experience among our employees, with expertise ranging from oil, gas, petro-chemical, pulp mill and industrial products. The “Can Do, Will Do“ attitude from our meager beginnings have been instilled from the leadership to each employee contributing to the organization.

Our proven ability to service the needs of our valued customers is evident through our customer loyalty and maintaining a sustainable foundation with planned strategic growth. Product diversification, hands on management, and the desire to accept nothing less than excellence are integral factors in our continued growth and success.
